The idea
The quarter-millimetre everyone sees.
A teak face veneer is a quarter of a millimetre thick. It is the part of a cupboard, a door or a wall that everyone sees, and the only part anyone remembers. We have made more than a million of them.

04 · How it's made
From log to leaf, in nine steps.
Logs are soaked, steamed and sliced to a tenth of a millimetre, then dried, checked, clipped, matched and packed.
- 01PreparationLogs are kept damp in ponds or under sprays from the day they arrive.
- 02DebarkingThe bark comes off evenly, without marking the log.
- 03CookingSubmerged in steamers at 80 to 100 °C for 18 to 72 hours, then cut within the hour.
- 04SlicingKnife and pressure set true to 0.1 mm: flat, quarter or rotary cut.
- 05DryingA jet dryer dries the leaves and flattens them.
- 06Quality checkAn expert checks them against strict standards.
- 07ClippingClipped into clean rectangles, edges bonded by the glue machine.
- 08SplicingMatched under heat and pressure, for a consistent face.
- 09PackingMeasured, labelled and wrapped in polythene for the road.
