Why teak, for furniture
Why teak lasts, and how a little wood oil brings it back.
New house, or a renovation? Furniture is a big purchase, and it should last. That is the case for teak.
It takes the weather
Teak stands up to winter storms, hot summers and rain, which is why so many outdoor benches, tables and seats are made of it.
It asks for little
Its natural oil keeps it from fading, and it needs no paint or varnish. To keep it bright, wipe it now and then with teak oil on a cloth: it brings back the colour and feeds the wood.
It looks the part
Teak’s honey-brown colour suits rooms indoors and out, it carves beautifully, and it holds metal fittings without losing its looks or its strength. It has been the furniture maker’s choice for decades.
